Chapter 19: Prativyūha of the Pāṇḍavas — Vajra (Acala) Formation and Dawn Omens
संध्यां तिष्ठत्सु सैन्येषु सूर्यस्पोदयन प्रति । प्रावात् सपृषतो वायुर्निरभ्रे स््तनयित्नुमान्
saṃdhyāṃ tiṣṭhatsu sainyeṣu sūryasyodayanaṃ prati | prāvāt sapṛṣato vāyur nirabhre stanayitnumān ||
サンジャヤは言った。軍勢が立ち並び、昇る太陽の方へ面してサンディヤーの祭儀を行っていたその時、細かな水滴を伴う風が吹き起こった。空は雲ひとつないのに、雷鳴のような轟きが響き、戦いの前夜に不吉な兆しが武者たちを覆った。
संजय उवाच
Even amid impending violence, the warriors observe Sandhyā worship, showing the continued presence of ritual duty; yet nature’s abnormal signs suggest that moral disorder and massive destruction are near, reminding readers that adharma in conflict invites ominous consequences.
At sunrise time, while the assembled armies are performing their Sandhyā rites facing the rising sun, an unusual wind blows with water droplets and thunder-like rumbling despite a cloudless sky—presented as a portent on the battlefield.
