Bhīṣma-nipāta-saṃvāda — Sañjaya’s Report of Bhīṣma’s Fall (भीष्मनिपातसंवादः)

दुर्योधन: शान्तनवं किं तदा प्रत्यपद्यत | संजय! जब दुर्योधनने शान्तनुनन्दन भीष्मको अस्ताचलगामी सूर्यकी भाँति पृथ्वीपर पड़ा देखा, तब उसने क्या सोचा? ।। ६२ है || नाहं स्वेषां परेषां वा बुद्धथा संजय चिन्तयन्‌

dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca | duryodhanaḥ śāntanavaṃ kiṃ tadā pratyapadyata | saṃjaya! yadā duryodhanena śāntanunandanaḥ bhīṣmaḥ astācalagāmī sūrya iva pṛthivyāṃ patitaḥ dṛṣṭaḥ, tadā sa kim acintayat | na ahaṃ sveṣāṃ pareṣāṃ vā buddhyā saṃjaya cintayan |

ドリタラーシュトラは言った。「サンジャヤよ、ドゥルヨーダナが、シャンタヌの子ビーシュマが西の山へ沈む太陽のように大地に倒れているのを見たとき、彼は何を思ったのか。私は、サンジャヤよ、自らの理解で思い巡らしても、わが子らの心にも敵の心にも何があったのか見定められぬ。」
