śvetacchatrasahasrāṇi sadhvajāś ca mahārathāḥ | vikīrṇāḥ samadṛśyanta śataśo 'tha sahasraśaḥ ||
サンジャヤは言った。「白い天蓋(パラソル)が幾千と地に散り、旗印をなお帯びた大車戦士たちが、幾百、幾千と倒れて四方に横たわっているのが見えた。戦場の華やぎは、戦の代価を告げる冷厳な証しへと変わり、位階と名誉は、広がる荒廃のただ中で倒れた徽章にまで貶められていた。」
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores impermanence and the leveling force of war: symbols of sovereignty (white parasols, banners) and the highest martial ranks (mahārathas) end up scattered alike, reminding the listener that pride in status is fragile and that violence carries a vast, sobering cost.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra the दृश्य of the battlefield: countless royal parasols and bannered chariot-champions are seen strewn across the field, indicating heavy casualties and the disordered aftermath of intense fighting.
