Measurements and Description of Śākadvīpa
एतत् प्रमाणमर्कस्य निर्दिष्टमिह भारत | स राहुश्छादयत्येती यथाकालं महत्तया
etat pramāṇam arkasya nirdiṣṭam iha bhārata | sa rāhuś chādayaty etī yathākālaṁ mahattayā ||
サンジャヤは言った。「バーラタよ、これがここに示された太陽の定まった尺度である。ラーフはその大いなる力によって、定められた時に来たりてこれを覆い隠す。」
संजय उवाच
The verse emphasizes that even striking cosmic events like the Sun’s obscuration occur according to an established order and appointed time (kāla), underscoring a worldview where phenomena follow recognized standards (pramāṇa) rather than randomness.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the Sun’s being covered is explained through the traditional account of Rāhu causing eclipses, presenting it as a known and time-bound occurrence—an ominous sign within the broader war-time narration.
