Adhyāya 108 — Nimitta-darśana and Drona’s counsel amid Arjuna’s advance (निमित्तदर्शनं द्रोणोपदेशश्च)
sañjaya uvāca | utpatadbhir aśvais tatra samudbhūtaṃ mahad rajaḥ | divākararathaṃ prāpya chādayāmāsa bhāskaram ||
The verse underscores how the violence and agitation of war can obscure perception and order—symbolized by dust veiling the Sun—hinting that in conflict, clarity and discernment are easily eclipsed.
Sañjaya describes the battlefield scene: horses are leaping and charging, raising an immense dust cloud that rises so high it seems to reach the Sun’s chariot and cover the Sun itself.
