Royal Reception Protocols during Āśvamedha Preparations
evaṃ atra mahārāja dakṣiṇāṃ triguṇāṃ kuru | tritvaṃ brajatu te rājan brāhmaṇā hy atra kāraṇam ||
The verse teaches that honoring the officiating Brāhmaṇas with generous dakṣiṇā is not merely transactional but ethically and ritually central: the efficacy and merit of a sacrifice depend on proper respect, support, and recompense to those who preserve and enact the Vedic rite.
Vaiśampāyana advises the king, within the context of a sacrificial performance, to give a threefold dakṣiṇā. He frames this generosity as elevating the single rite to the merit of three sacrifices, because the Brāhmaṇas are presented as the key agents enabling the yajña.
