Ulūpī’s Disclosure and the Saṃjīvana-Maṇi: Arjuna’s Restoration
Citrāṅgadāyāḥ śṛṇvatyāḥ kauravya-duhituḥ tadā — “devi! tvayā yad idaṃ kāryaṃ kṛtaṃ, tat sarvaṃ mama atyantaṃ priyam.” iti uktvā Arjunaḥ Citrāṅgadāṃ tathā Ulūpīm śṛṇvantyau svaputraṃ Maṇipura-nareśaṃ Babhruvāhanaṃ uvāca—
The passage highlights ethical appreciation and relational dharma: Arjuna openly acknowledges a deed as deeply pleasing, modeling gratitude and the restoration of harmony within a complex family network (wives and son), where honor and duty must be balanced with reconciliation.
Arjuna, with Chitrāṅgadā and Ulūpī present, praises Ulūpī’s action as very dear to him and then turns to address his son Babhruvāhana, the king of Maṇipura—marking a shift from acknowledging the women’s role to directly engaging the son in the unfolding events of the Aśvamedha episode.
