परिक्षिदिति नामास्य भवत्तित्यब्रवीत् तदा । “कुरुकुलके परिक्षीण हो जानेपर यह अभिमन्युका बालक उत्पन्न हुआ है। इसलिये इसका नाम परिक्षित् होना चाहिये।” ऐसा भगवानने कहा
parīkṣid iti nāmāsya bhavatt ity abravīt tadā |
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは言った。「そのとき主は宣言された。『この子の名はパリークシト（Parīkṣit）とせよ。俱盧の家がほとんど滅び尽くさんとしたとき、アビマンニュのこの子が生まれた。ゆえにパリークシト——家系を守り、ふたたび立て直す者——という名を負うべきである。』主はこのように語られた。」
