Pure, discriminative knowledge is presented as the direct means to the highest good, because it removes all moral and spiritual defilements; ignorance-driven identification (ahaṅkāra) is the recurring seed of bondage.
Vāyudeva delivers a doctrinal instruction: he links ethical purification to liberating knowledge and then explains a Sāṅkhya-style causal chain in which ahaṅkāra and the five great elements function as both causes and effects, generating the field of sense-experience.
