Adhyāya 40: Brahmā on Mahān (The Great Principle) and the All-Pervading Puruṣa
पर्यायवाचकै: शब्दैर्महानात्मा विभाव्यते । तं जानन ब्राह्मणो विद्वान प्रमोहें नाधिगच्छति
paryāyavācakaiḥ śabdair mahānātmā vibhāvyate | taṃ jānann brāhmaṇo vidvān pramohe nādhigacchati ||
大いなる自己は、それを同義に指し示す言葉によって理解されるべきである。その実在を真に知る博学のバラモンは、迷妄に陥らない。「マハーン・アートマン」「マティ」「ヴィシュヌ」「ジシュヌ」「シャンブ」「ヴィーリヤヴァーン」「ブッディ」「プラジュニャー」「ウパラブディ」「キヤーティ」「ドゥリティ」「スムリティ」などの名は、その大いなる自己を示すために用いられる。其の本質を掴む者は、混乱に呑まれない。
