Adhyāya 40: Brahmā on Mahān (The Great Principle) and the All-Pervading Puruṣa
एवं हि यो वेद गुहाशयं प्रभु परं पुराणं पुरुष विश्वरूपम् । हिरण्मयं बुद्धिमतां परां गतिं स बुद्धिमान बुद्धिमतीत्य तिषछठति
evaṁ hi yo veda guhāśayaṁ prabhuṁ paraṁ purāṇaṁ puruṣaṁ viśvarūpam | hiraṇmayaṁ buddhimatāṁ parāṁ gatiṁ sa buddhimān buddhim atītya tiṣṭhati ||
ヴァーユは言った。心の奥の秘められた「洞窟」に住まう至上主—超越にして太古、普遍の姿をもつ宇宙のプルシャ—黄金のごとく輝き(hiraṇmaya)、賢者たちの最高の到達点であるその主を真に知る者は、真の賢者となり、凡庸な知の限界を超えて立つ。この教えは、単なる理屈よりも内なる覚知を上位に置く。内に在す自顕にして自足の主を認めることにより、心の算段の境界を越え、最高の善に至るのである。
वायुदेव उवाच
Real wisdom is not mere intellectual skill but direct recognition of the Supreme Lord as the inner indweller (guhāśaya). Knowing Him as the ancient Cosmic Person of universal form, the seeker transcends the limits of discursive intellect and becomes established in the highest state.
Vāyu is instructing the listener about the nature of the Supreme: self-manifest, radiant, and the ultimate goal of the wise. The verse functions as a doctrinal affirmation within the Ashvamedhika Parva’s broader post-war spiritual and ethical instruction, emphasizing inner realization and liberation.
