samudīrṇeṣu doṣeṣu bādhyamāneṣu sādhuṣu | jagrāha tarasā rājyam ambarīṣo mahāyaśāḥ ||
伝えられるところによれば—過ちの勢いが盛んになり、善き人々が圧迫されるようになったとき、名高きアンバリーシャ王はただちに王権の手綱を握り、断固たる力で統治に乗り出して秩序を回復し、ダルマを護った。
ब्राह्मण उवाच
When adharma grows strong and the virtuous are harmed, a ruler must act decisively to protect the righteous and re-establish moral and social order; political power is portrayed as a duty-bearing instrument for dharma, not mere privilege.
A brahmin narrator describes a time of moral decline: vices have intensified and good people are being oppressed. In response, the famed King Ambarīṣa quickly takes control of the kingdom, implying an assertive assumption of rule to counter disorder.
