यः स पञ्चसु भूतेषु प्राणापाने व्यवस्थित: । स गच्छत्यूर्ध्वगो वायु: कृच्छान्मुक्त्वा शरीरिण:,अन्य प्रकारकी तीव्र वायुसे प्रेरित हो शरीरमें सर्दीसे कुपित हुई जो वायु पाँचों भूतोंमें प्राण और अपानके स्थानमें स्थित है, वही पञचभूतोंके संघातका नाश करती है तथा वह देहधारियोंको बड़े कष्टसे त्यागकर ऊर्ध्वलोकको चली जाती है

yaḥ sa pañcasu bhūteṣu prāṇāpāne vyavasthitaḥ | sa gacchaty ūrdhvago vāyuḥ kṛcchrān muktvā śarīriṇaḥ ||

五大のうちにあって、プラーナとアパーナ(吸気と呼気)として働くその生命の風こそ、上方へ昇る時、有身の者からきわめて困難に離れ去る—去り際に、身を成す諸大の結びつきを断ち砕きながら。ここには、有身の生の脆さと、命の息が元素の枠組みから痛ましく引き剥がされるさまが示されている。
