Kuntī’s Retrospective Uddharṣaṇa and Renunciatory Resolve (कुन्त्युद्धर्षण-प्रत्याख्यानम्)

ततस्तत्र समाजग्मुस्तापसा नियतव्रता: । पाण्डवानागतान द्रष्टं कौतूहलसमन्विता:

tatas tatra samājagmus tāpasā niyatavratāḥ | pāṇḍavān āgatān draṣṭuṁ kautūhalasamanvitāḥ ||

ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。――するとそのアーシュラマには、戒を厳守する苦行者たちが集い、好奇心に満ちて、到来したパーンダヴァたちを見ようとした。この場面は、戦後の彼らの旅が帯びる道義的な重みを示す。彼らの存在は、苦行と自制に身を捧げる者たちを引き寄せ、王の務めと苦難がいかにして謙虚さとダルマへの省察へ熟したかを見届けさせるかのようである。
