Even after political collapse and personal blame, society is urged toward dharmic conduct—showing respect to elders and acknowledging shared human suffering. The people’s desire to see Dhṛtarāṣṭra reflects a moral reckoning and a continued sense of communal responsibility beyond victory and defeat.
As Yudhiṣṭhira proceeds, citizens from the city and surrounding districts follow him in various vehicles because they wish to see Dhṛtarāṣṭra. The verse highlights the public gathering around the elder king during the Āśramavāsika events.
