Śrāddha-Kalpa: Pitṛ-Pūjā and Tithi-Phala
yasmād apatyakāmo vai bhartā me vinivartitaḥ | tasmāt sarve surā yūyam anapatyā bhaviṣyatha ||
The verse highlights the ethical logic of consequence: when a rightful desire for progeny is forcibly obstructed, the resulting grievance can manifest as a curse, showing how restraint imposed unjustly can generate far-reaching repercussions even for divine beings.
Bhishma, speaking within a larger account, states that because her husband—though wishing for children—was prevented from fulfilling that aim, she pronounces that the gods will consequently become childless.
