Śrāddha-Kalpa: Pitṛ-Pūjā and Tithi-Phala (श्राद्धकल्पः पितृपूजा च तिथिफलम्)
सुवर्ण ये प्रयच्छन्ति एवं मत्पितरो<ब्रुवन् । ततोऊहं विस्मितो राजन प्रतिबुद्धो विशाम्पते
suvarṇaṃ ye prayacchanti evaṃ matpitaraḥ abruvan | tato 'haṃ vismito rājan pratibuddho viśāmpate ||
ビーシュマは言った。「黄金を施す者——わが祖先はそのように宣言した。これを聞いて、王よ、民の主よ、私は驚嘆し、より明晰な理解へと目覚めたのだ。」
भीष्म उवाच
Bhīṣma highlights the ethical weight of dāna (charitable giving), specifically the praised act of giving gold, grounding the teaching in ancestral testimony and presenting it as a cause for moral awakening and clearer discernment.
Bhīṣma, instructing the king in Anuśāsana Parva’s discourse on dharma, reports what his forefathers taught about the merit of giving gold; he then tells the king that this statement left him amazed and spiritually ‘awakened’ (pratibuddha).
