गवां लोकवर्णनं तथा गोप्रदानफलश्रुतिः

Description of the ‘World of Cows’ and the Stated Fruits of Cow-Gift

वेदान्तनिष्ठस्य बहुश्रुतस्य प्रज्ञानतृप्तस्य जितेन्द्रियस्य । शिष्टस्य दान्तस्य यतस्य चैव भूतेषु नित्यं प्रियवादिनश्वल

vedāntaniṣṭhasya bahuśrutasya prajñānatṛptasya jitendriyasya | śiṣṭasya dāntasya yatasya caiva bhūteṣu nityaṁ priyavādinaś ca ||

ビーシュマは言った。「ヴェーダーンタに堅く住し、博学で、智慧の歓びに満ち、諸感官を制し、礼節と規律を備え、正しい努力に励み、あらゆる生きものに常に優しい言葉を語る――そのようなバラモンの生計は、必ず整えてやるべきである。この教えは、飢えの圧迫の下でも不義に走らず、柔和で静か、客を敬い、偏りなく、ダルマに献身する模範的な家住バラモンを社会が支える責務を説き、徳と学が世に保たれるようにするのである。」

Society (especially rulers and householders) should ensure the livelihood of a brāhmaṇa who embodies learning, Vedānta-oriented wisdom, self-control, gentle speech, and impartial goodwill—because sustaining such exemplary conduct sustains dharma itself.
