Ānṛśaṃsya–Bhakti: Śukaḥ Śakreṇa Parīkṣitaḥ
Compassion and Devotion—The Parrot Tested by Indra
तस्मिन् वक्षे तथाभूते कोटरेषु चिरोषित: । न जहाति शुको वासं तस्य भक्त्या वनस्पते:,उस वृक्षके खोंखलेमें बहुत दिनोंसे एक तोता निवास करता था। उसका उस वृक्षके प्रति बड़ा प्रेम हो गया था, इसलिये वह उसके सूखनेपर भी वहाँका निवास छोड़ नहीं रहा था
tasmin vakṣe tathābhūte koṭareṣu ciroṣitaḥ | na jahāti śuko vāsaṃ tasya bhaktyā vanaspateḥ ||
ビーシュマは言った。「その木がそのような有様となったとき、幹の洞に久しく住んでいた一羽の鸚鵡は、なおも住処を捨てなかった。その木への愛着と敬慕ゆえに、木が枯れてゆくさなかにも留まり続けた――衰えの時にも支えを見捨てぬ、揺るがぬ忠誠と報恩の譬えである。」
