Viśvāmitra-janma: Ṛcīka–Satyavatī–Gādhi and the Charu Exchange
Ṛṣīkēṇāhitaṁ brahma param etad, Yudhiṣṭhira; rājā Yudhiṣṭhira! mahātapasvī Viśvāmitraḥ yady api kṣatriya āsīt, tathāpi Ṛcīka-muninā tasmin parama-utkṛṣṭa-brahma-tejasaḥ ādhānaṁ kṛtam.
Spiritual excellence is not confined to birth-status: through tapas and the transmission/establishment of brahma-tejas by a realized sage, even one born a Kshatriya (like Vishvamitra) can attain the highest Brahmanic spiritual potency. The verse emphasizes inner merit, discipline, and sanctifying guidance over mere lineage.
Bhishma instructs King Yudhishthira and cites Vishvamitra as an example: though Vishvamitra’s origin was Kshatriya, a sage (named here as Ṛṣīka/Ṛcīka) established in him supreme brahmanic radiance, illustrating how ascetic effort and spiritual consecration can transform one’s standing and power.
