Brāhmaṇya-प्रश्नः — The Inquiry into Attaining Brāhmaṇya
Mataṅga–Gardabhī Itihāsa
citrakūṭe janasthāne tathā mandākinī-jale | vigāhya vai nirāhāro rāja-lakṣmyā niṣevyate ||
The verse links sacred bathing (tīrtha-snān) and fasting (nirāhāra) with the attainment of rāja-lakṣmī—prosperity and status—implying that disciplined self-restraint performed in holy contexts is ethically efficacious and socially fruitful.
Ajadriya is describing the fruit (phala) of specific tīrtha-observances: bathing at Citrakūṭa in the Mandākinī and at Janasthāna, followed by fasting, which is said to bring the favor of royal fortune.
