अहिंसयित्वा ब्रह्महत्याविधानम् / Brahmahatyā incurred without physical violence
अमानिन: सर्वसहा दृढार्था विजितेन्द्रिया: । सर्वभूतहिता मैत्रास्ते भ्यो दत्त महाफलम्
amāninaḥ sarvasahā dṛḍhārthā vijitendriyāḥ | sarvabhūtahitā maitrās tebhyo dattaṃ mahāphalam ||
ビーシュマは言った。「我執を離れ、あらゆる艱難に耐え、志を堅くし、諸根を制し、万有の利益を願って友愛をもって生きる者—そのような人々に施された布施は、大いなる果報をもたらす。」
भीष्म उवाच
The verse teaches that humility (not craving honor), endurance, steadfast resolve, mastery over the senses, and universal goodwill are the defining traits of the righteous; such virtues lead to a “great fruit,” i.e., the highest moral and spiritual reward.
In the Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma. Here he enumerates the qualities of exemplary persons and affirms that those who embody these traits receive great merit and auspicious results.
