bhīṣma uvāca rājann viditadharmo 'si sunirṇītārthasaṁśayaḥ | bahuśrutā hi te viprā bahavaḥ paryupāsitāḥ ||
True clarity in dharma and life’s aims arises from disciplined learning and respectful association with the wise; serving and listening to learned teachers removes doubt and steadies ethical judgment.
In the Anushasana Parva’s instruction section, Bhishma addresses the king and affirms that he has gained firm understanding of dharma and purpose because he has long associated with and served many learned Brahmin scholars.
