मनुष्यान्‌ शिवमन्विच्छंस्तस्मादेष शिव: स्मृत: । अथवा उनकी जटाका रूप धूम्र वर्णका है

Transliteration

manuṣyān śivam anvicchan tasmād eṣa śivaḥ smṛtaḥ |

Translation

風神ヴāyuは言った。「彼は人々の吉祥と安寧（śiva）を求めるがゆえに、『シヴァ（Śiva）』と記憶されるのである。」さらに本文は、頭上の結髪（jaṭā）が煙の色を帯びるため『ドゥールジャティ（Dhūrjaṭi）』と呼ばれること、またあらゆる行為をもって万人の向上を促し、すべての者の善を願うがゆえに、『シヴァ』の名がまことにふさわしいことを説く。
