Mental recitation of the Sāvitrī/Gāyatrī is a portable discipline: practiced amid travel or public duties, it leads to the highest spiritual attainment, showing that dharma can be sustained internally regardless of external circumstances.
Bhishma, instructing on dharma, lists common situations—boat travel, riding, being abroad, and entering the royal court—and states the merit of silently reciting the excellent Sāvitrī in these contexts.
