Śiva-darśana through Tapas and Stuti
matto 'py aṣṭau varān iṣṭān gṛhāṇa tvaṃ dadāmi te | praṇamya śirasā sā ca mayoktā pāṇḍunandana |
The verse highlights the ethical posture of humility and devotion: divine gifts (boons) are approached not with entitlement but with reverent submission (bowing with the head), implying that power and benefit should be sought within a framework of dharma and gratitude.
A divine feminine figure (identified in the prose as Jagadambā) invites the speaker to request eight desired boons and promises to grant them. The speaker then bows at her feet and begins to state the requests, while addressing a Pāṇḍava (Pāṇḍunandana) as the listener.
