Viṣṇu-sahasranāma—Yudhiṣṭhira’s Inquiry and Bhīṣma’s Recitation (विष्णोर्नामसहस्रम्)
मनुष्यका किया हुआ कोई भी पुण्य तथा पाप भोगके बिना नष्ट नहीं होता। पर्वकालमें जो कुछ भी दान किया जाता है, वह सब सूर्यदेवके पास पहुँचता है ।।
preta-lokaṁ gate martye tat tat sarvaṁ vibhāvasuḥ | pratijānāti puṇyātmā tac ca tatropayujyate ||
ヤマは言った。「人のなした功徳も罪も、報いとして味わわれぬまま滅びることはない。季節の聖なる時に施されたものは、ことごとく太陽神に至る。人が亡者の界に赴くとき、太陽—ヴィバーヴァス—はそれらを認め、しかるべき形で彼の地において授ける。ゆえに、いかなる行いも失われず、各々は相応の帰結に至る。」
