अविद्दान् भीरुरल्पार्थे विद्याविक्रमदानजम् । यशः प्रार्थयसे नूनं तेनासि हरिण: कृश:
avidvān bhīrur alpārthe vidyā-vikrama-dāna-jam | yaśaḥ prārthayase nūnaṃ tenāsi hariṇaḥ kṛśaḥ ||
婆羅門は言った。「まことに、汝は真に学ある者ではないのに、学より生ずると世に言われる名声を求めている。臆病でありながら武勇の誉れを望み、財も乏しいのに大施主の名を欲する。ゆえに汝は鹿のごとく痩せ、色も失った—名のみを渇望し、それを生む内なる実が欠けているがために。」
