Educational Q&A

Bhīṣma teaches ethical restraint in sexual conduct: avoid intercourse at improper times (daytime), avoid relations with those who are not appropriate partners (a maiden or a woman in bondage), and observe standards of cleanliness/ritual propriety (not with an unbathed woman). Such disciplined conduct is praised as conducive to health and longevity.

In the Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma continues instructing Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma and proper conduct (ācāra). This verse is part of his prescriptive guidance on household ethics and personal discipline, linking moral restraint with the practical benefit of long life.
