bhojanaṃ kṛtvā kullaṃ kṛtvā mukhaṃ prakṣālya ekena hastena dakṣiṇapādāṅguṣṭhe jalaṃ nikṣipet | pārṇiṃ mūrdhni samādhāya spṛṣṭvā cāgniṃ samāhitaḥ | jñātiśraiṣṭhyam avāpnoti prayogakuśalo naraḥ ||
That everyday dharma is upheld through disciplined cleanliness after eating and mindful reverence to the sacred fire; correct observance (prayoga) cultivates social and moral excellence, bringing esteem among one’s relatives.
Bhishma, instructing on rules of conduct, describes a sequence of post-meal actions—rinsing, washing, pouring water on the right great toe, placing the palm on the head, and mentally honoring Agni—stating that such proper practice leads to distinction among one’s kin.
