देवयान्युवाच आख्यास्याम्यहमादत्स्व वचन मे नराधिप । शुक्रो नामासुरगुरु: सुतां जानीहि तस्य माम्,देवयानी बोली--महाराज! मैं स्वयं परिचय देती हूँ, आप मेरी बात सुनें। असुरोंके जो सुप्रसिद्ध गुरु शुक्राचार्य हैं, मुझे उन्हींकी पुत्री जानिये
devayāny uvāca | ākhyāsyām aham ādatsva vacana me narādhipa | śukro nāmāsuraguruḥ sutāṃ jānīhi tasya mām ||
デーヴァヤーニーは言った。「わたしが何者かを告げましょう――王よ、わたしの言葉をお受けください。わたしは、アスラの名高き師シュクラ(Śukra)の娘であると知りなさい。」
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights truthful self-disclosure and the ethical weight of lineage and responsibility: Devayānī establishes her identity plainly, invoking her father Śukra’s authority, which frames how others should treat her and how she should act.
Devayānī introduces herself to a king, asking him to accept her statement and informing him that she is the daughter of Śukra, the famed preceptor of the Asuras—an identification that sets the stakes for the ensuing events.
