Akalamṛtyu-kāraṇa and Bāla Antyeṣṭi: Age-graded Funeral Rites, Śrāddha Types, and Sonship Duties

Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Birth outcomes and capacities are not mechanically inherited; individual karma and conditions shape embodiment and aptitude beyond parental traits.
Vedantic Theme: Karma-vipāka and nānātvam in saṃsāra; rejection of simplistic causality; recognition of adṛṣṭa (unseen karmic factors).
Application: Avoid fatalism and stigma around disability or pedigree; support education and care based on present needs and effort, not assumptions about parentage.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 2.25 (discussion leading into types of sons and śrāddha eligibility)
This verse highlights that outward lineage or parental traits do not guarantee similar qualities in offspring, implying that true compatibility and virtue must be discerned rather than assumed.
By denying deterministic inheritance of traits, it reinforces a dharmic emphasis on individual conduct, discernment, and cultivated virtues—core themes used throughout the Purana’s instruction to Garuda.
Do not judge people solely by family background or assumptions about inherited traits; evaluate character, communication, and values directly when choosing partnerships or trusting counsel.
