Sṛṣṭi-krama: Brahmā’s Sequential Creation of Devas, Sages, and Sense-Presiding Powers
(१३।५) असृजत्ते महाभागे अव्यक्तस्य नियामिके / वामहस्तात्सत्यपुत्रो महत्तत्वात्मको ऽनलः
(13.5) asṛjatte mahābhāge avyaktasya niyāmike / vāmahastātsatyaputro mahattatvātmako 'nalaḥ
おお、まことに幸いなる者よ。未顕現(アヴィヤクタ)を統べる調御者は創造した。彼の左手より、サティヤの子アナラが生まれた。その本性はマハット(宇宙知)という原理である。
Lord Vishnu (in discourse to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: The Unmanifest is governed by a regulator; from that governance, specific principles/deities manifest (Anala) with Mahat-associated nature.
Vedantic Theme: Prakṛti is not independent; it is directed by Īśvara (niyantṛ). Manifestation proceeds in ordered stages (tattva-krama).
Application: Cultivate discernment that impulses and ‘nature’ are to be regulated; align personal energies (tejas/agni) with higher guidance and discipline.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana creation-krama passages describing emergence of deities/elements from limbs (aṅga-sṛṣṭi)
This verse links a named primordial being (Anala) with Mahat-tattva, emphasizing that cosmic intelligence is a first, foundational principle emerging under the governance of the Unmanifest’s controller.
By outlining how subtle principles like Mahat arise, the verse provides the metaphysical background for how the subtle body and mind-intellect complex exist—key to understanding the jīva’s post-death journey described elsewhere in the Purana.
Reflecting on the ordered emergence of mind and intelligence encourages disciplined living: cultivate buddhi (clear discernment) so actions align with dharma and reduce karmic bondage.
