Lord Vishnu (in dialogue with Garuda)
Concept: Vaiṣṇavī-vidhi: aligning rite with Viṣṇu’s mode under Lakṣmī’s auspice and Agni’s corner for sanctified action.
Vedantic Theme: Śrī-Nārāyaṇa unity: prosperity (Śrī) and preservation (Viṣṇu) as supportive conditions for dharmic life; karma purified through devotionally ordered ritual.
Application: When Aṣṭamī coincides with Amāvāsyā-yoga, treat it as a special observance under Mahālakṣmī’s auspice; on Ekādaśī, in the third watch, perform the rite oriented to the southeast in Vaiṣṇavī manner.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Type: directional corner + auspicious ritual zone
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.59 (tithi-yoga-dik prescriptions); Garuda Purana bhakti passages praising Viṣṇu-nāma (general)
This verse treats the coincidence of aṣṭamī with amāvasyā as a specifically marked ritual conjunction, indicating an auspicious/technically significant time window for a prescribed observance.
It does not directly describe the soul’s journey; instead, it gives ritual parameters (tithi, watch, direction, and Vaiṣṇavī method) that, in the Garuda Purana’s broader framework, support dharma and auspicious outcomes.
If following traditional practice, align devotional/ritual acts with stated lunar timings (aṣṭamī/amāvasyā or ekādaśī), observe the appropriate time segment (third watch), and follow a Vaiṣṇava method with attention to ritual directionality (southeast/Agni corner).
