The Ninefold Rite (Navavidhi): Worship of Sudarśana-Cakra and the Disease-Destroying Hymn
हरिरुवाच / सुदर्शनस्य चक्रस्य शृणु पूजां वृषध्वज / स्नानमादौ प्रकुर्वीत पूजयेच्च हरिं तत
hariruvāca / sudarśanasya cakrasya śṛṇu pūjāṃ vṛṣadhvaja / snānamādau prakurvīta pūjayecca hariṃ tata
ハリは言った。「おおヴリシャドヴァジャよ、スダルシャナ輪の供養法を聞け。まず沐浴して身を清め、しかる後にハリを礼拝せよ。」
Hari (Lord Vishnu)
Concept: Śauca (purificatory bathing) as prerequisite to devatā-arcana; worship directed to Hari through Sudarśana method.
Vedantic Theme: Antaḥkaraṇa-śuddhi as support for bhakti and mantra; outer purity symbolizing inner purification.
Application: Before japa/pūjā, bathe or at least perform ācamana and mental purification; keep a clean worship space and disciplined routine.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: ritual space (snāna and pūjā setting)
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.33.3 (nyāsa and mantra); Garuda Purana 1.33.4 (dhyāna in heart-lotus)
This verse frames Sudarśana worship as a formal pūjā-vidhi taught by Hari himself, implying it is a sanctioned protective and devotional practice within the Purāṇic ritual tradition.
It states a clear sequence: begin with snāna (ritual cleansing) and only then proceed to worship Hari (and, by context, Sudarśana as Hari’s divine weapon).
Maintain purity and preparedness before prayer: cleanse the body and mind first, then perform worship with focus and reverence.
