Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vainateya)
Concept: Śarīra-rakṣaṇa (protecting the body) as a supportive duty enabling dharma and sādhana; disciplined use of remedies.
Vedantic Theme: Body as an instrument (karaṇa) for puruṣārthas; maintenance of health supports sattva and spiritual practice.
Application: Prepare pills from specified herbs triturated with gomūtra; dose according to condition (one for indigestion linked to chest/heart-region disturbance; two for viṣūcikā-like acute GI disorder).
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.179 (Ayurvedic/auṣadha section continuing); Garuda Purana 1.180 (transition into dhūpa/lepa and vashīkaraṇa recipes)
This verse shows the Garuda Purana also preserves practical āyurvedic formulations—linking dharmic living with maintaining health through traditional herbal preparations and disciplined dosage.
It does not directly describe afterlife doctrine here; instead, within the broader Garuda Purana narrative, such health instructions support righteous household life (ācāra), which is treated as foundational for later teachings on karma, death rites, and post-death journeys.
Treat it as a historical āyurvedic reference: understand the traditional identification of the herbs and the concept of dose (one vs two pills), but consult qualified practitioners before using any gomūtra/herbal formulations.
