Balarāma Humbles the Kurus and Rescues Sāmba
dṛṣṭvānudhāvataḥ sāmbo dhārtarāṣṭrān mahā-rathaḥ pragṛhya ruciraṁ cāpaṁ tasthau siṁha ivaikalaḥ
In this verse, Sāmba faces the charging Kauravas without retreat—grasping his bow and standing alone like a lion—highlighting steadfast courage as part of kṣatriya duty.
The narrative context of this chapter places Sāmba in conflict with the Kaurava party; when they charge at him, he responds as a warrior should—by taking up his bow and holding his ground.
It teaches steadiness under pressure: when challenges “rush toward” us, we should respond with clarity, preparedness, and courage rather than panic or avoidance.
