Pauṇḍraka’s False Vāsudeva Claim, His Death, and the Burning of Vārāṇasī by Sudarśana
prīto ’vimukte bhagavāṁs tasmai varam adād vibhuḥ pitṛ-hantṛ-vadhopāyaṁ sa vavre varam īpsitam
This verse shows the Lord may grant a boon when pleased, yet the recipient’s intention matters—Avimukta uses the boon for vengeance, highlighting that boons reflect the seeker’s desire and karma.
Within the narrative, Avimukta is driven by grief and retaliation; he seeks not wealth or devotion, but a specific method to destroy the one who killed his father.
It cautions that power, influence, or “blessings” should be guided by dharma—otherwise they amplify anger and revenge rather than healing and spiritual progress.
