Trivakrā’s Transformation and the Breaking of Kaṁsa’s Bow
Mathurā-līlā Prelude
वाद्यमानेषु तूर्येषु मल्लतालोत्तरेषु च । मल्ला: स्वलङ्कृता: दृप्ता: सोपाध्याया: समासत ॥ ३६ ॥
vādyamānesu tūryeṣu malla-tālottareṣu ca mallāḥ sv-alaṅkṛtāḥ dṛptāḥ sopādhyāyāḥ samāsata
レスリングにふさわしい拍子で楽器が高らかに鳴り響く中、華やかに飾った誇り高い力士たちは師匠を伴い競技場に入り、席に着いた。
This verse describes a charged, festive atmosphere—loud instruments and drums—while the wrestlers, decorated and proud, sit with their trainers, setting the stage for Kṛṣṇa’s pastime.
Their external ornamentation and inner arrogance highlight their confidence in bodily strength, contrasting with Kṛṣṇa’s divine power that will soon overturn their pride.
It cautions that external display and pride can blind one to higher reality; cultivating humility and spiritual vision protects one from being carried away by spectacle and ego.
