Gopī-Vipralambha: The Search for Kṛṣṇa and the Revelation of Divine Footprints
गतिस्मितप्रेक्षणभाषणादिषु प्रिया: प्रियस्य प्रतिरूढमूर्तय: । असावहं त्वित्यबलास्तदात्मिका न्यवेदिषु: कृष्णविहारविभ्रमा: ॥ ३ ॥
gati-smita-prekṣaṇa-bhāṣaṇādiṣu priyāḥ priyasya pratirūḍha-mūrtayaḥ asāv ahaṁ tv ity abalās tad-ātmikā nyavediṣuḥ kṛṣṇa-vihāra-vibhramāḥ
愛するクリシュナに没入したゴーピーたちの身体は、彼の歩み、微笑み、眼差し、語り口などをそのまま写し取った。リーラーの想起に酔いしれ、彼女たちは互いに「私がクリシュナよ!」と言い合った。
Spontaneously, the gopīs began moving like Kṛṣṇa: they smiled as He would smile, glanced boldly as He would and spoke as He would. The gopīs were completely absorbed in the existence of Kṛṣṇa and mad with love at their sudden separation from Him, and thus their dedication to Him attained absolute perfection.
It describes how the gopīs became so absorbed in Kṛṣṇa that they saw His very form and qualities reflected everywhere—in His gait, smile, glances, and speech—and even spoke in ecstatic identification, overwhelmed by His līlā.
Because in intense separation and remembrance (viraha), their consciousness becomes completely fixed on Kṛṣṇa; this produces devotional “bewilderment” where everything appears as Kṛṣṇa, and the self feels inseparable from His presence.
To cultivate steady remembrance of God through His qualities and pastimes—training the mind to return to Kṛṣṇa in daily life—so devotion becomes natural and continuous rather than occasional.
