Dhaumya’s Enumeration of Eastern Tīrthas

Prācī-diś Tīrtha-kathana

daṇḍākhyam abhigamyaiva go-sahasra-phalaṁ labhet | tatpaścāt campāṁ gatvā bhāgīrathyāṁ tarpaṇaṁ kuryāt, daṇḍa-nāmaka-tīrthe gatvā sahasra-go-dānasya phalaṁ prāpnoti |

Pulastya said: By merely visiting the sacred ford called Daṇḍa, one gains the merit equal to gifting a thousand cows. Thereafter, having gone to Campā and performed the rite of libation (tarpaṇa) in the river Bhāgīrathī, the pilgrim—on reaching the Daṇḍa-tīrtha—attains the fruit of a thousand cow-gifts. The passage frames pilgrimage and ancestral offerings as disciplined, dharmic acts that cultivate generosity and reverence without requiring material wealth from everyone.
