Tīrtha-yātrā: Phalaśruti and Sacred Geography from Lohitya to Prayāga
Pulastya’s Instruction
त्रिरात्रोपोषित: स्नात्वा मुच्यते ब्रह्महत्यया । अग्निष्टोमातिरात्रा भ्यां फलं विन्दति मानव:
trirātropoṣitaḥ snātvā mucyate brahmahatyayā | agniṣṭomātirātrābhyāṁ phalaṁ vindati mānavaḥ ||
One who has fasted for three nights and then bathes becomes freed from the sin of brahma-slaughter. By that observance, a person gains the merit comparable to the Soma-sacrifices known as the Agniṣṭoma and the Atirātra—teaching that disciplined austerity and purification can serve as a remedial path for grave moral transgression.
