Damayantī’s Distress, Proclamation of the Svayaṃvara, and the Gods’ Request
शण्वसत्स्वेतेषु वीरेषु धृष्टद्युम्नमुखेषु च । तब राजा युधिष्ठिरने उस वीरसमुदायमें इन धृष्टद्युम्न आदि शूरवीरोंके सुनते हुए श्रीकृष्ससे कहा
śṛṇvatsu eteṣu vīreṣu dhṛṣṭadyumnamukheṣu ca | tadā rājā yudhiṣṭhiraḥ śrīkṛṣṇam uvāca ||
Sañjaya said: While those heroes—led by Dhṛṣṭadyumna—were listening, King Yudhiṣṭhira then addressed Śrī Kṛṣṇa. The scene underscores a public, accountable moment: counsel is sought in the hearing of warriors, so that the course chosen may align with dharma and shared responsibility rather than private impulse.
संजय उवाच
Seeking guidance in the presence of responsible stakeholders highlights dharmic leadership: decisions, especially those involving conflict, should be made transparently, with accountability and alignment to righteous counsel.
Sañjaya narrates that, as the warriors led by Dhṛṣṭadyumna listen, King Yudhiṣṭhira turns to Śrī Kṛṣṇa and begins to speak—setting up a counsel or instruction delivered before the assembled heroes.
