Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Sañjaya on Arjuna’s Indraloka report and the political consequences
दृष्टवैव चोर्वशीं पार्थो लज्जासंवृतलोचन: । तदाभिवादन कृत्वा गुरुपूजां प्रयुक्तवान्,उर्वशीको आयी देख अर्जुनके नेत्र लज्जासे मुँद गये। उस समय उन्होंने उसके चरणोंमें प्रणाम करके उसका गुरुजनोचित सत्कार किया
dṛṣṭvaiva corvaśīṃ pārtho lajjāsaṃvṛtalocanaḥ | tadābhivādanaṃ kṛtvā gurupūjāṃ prayuktavān ||
Vaiśampāyana said: As soon as Pārtha (Arjuna) beheld Urvaśī, his eyes were lowered and veiled by modesty. Then, having offered her respectful salutation, he rendered to her the honor and service due to a revered elder and teacher—upholding decorum and self-restraint in the presence of a celestial lady.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic restraint and proper conduct: even when encountering beauty and power, one should respond with modesty, self-control, and respectful honor appropriate to status and relationship (treating Urvaśī with guru-like reverence).
Vaiśampāyana describes Arjuna seeing the apsaras Urvaśī; Arjuna lowers/averts his eyes out of modesty, offers formal salutations, and honors her with the respect customarily shown to a guru or venerable elder.
