गात्रसंस्पर्शसम्बद्धां नयम्बकेण सहानघ । पार्थस्य देवदेवेन शूणु सम्यक्‌ समागमम्‌,अनघ! देवदेव महादेवजीके साथ अर्जुनके शरीरका जो स्पर्श हुआ था, उससे सम्बन्ध रखनेवाली यह कथा है। तुम उन दोनोंके मिलनका यह वृत्तान्त भलीभाँति सुनो

gātrasaṁsparśasambaddhāṁ nayambakeṇa sahānagha | pārthasya devadevena śṛṇu samyak samāgamam, anagha ||

Vaiśampāyana said: “O sinless one, listen carefully to this account—how Pārtha (Arjuna) came into meeting with the God of gods, Mahādeva. This narrative is connected with the bodily contact that occurred between Arjuna and the Three-eyed Lord, and it will be told in full as a meaningful episode of divine encounter and grace.”
