Vyāsa’s Counsel to Yudhiṣṭhira: Pratismṛti-vidyā, Arjuna’s Aśtra-Quest, and the Move to Kāmyaka

sa muhūrtam iva dhyātvā vanavāsam ariṃdamaḥ | dhanañjayaṃ dharmarājo rahasīdam uvāca ha |

Vaiśampāyana said: After reflecting for a moment on the matter of dwelling in the forest, the Dharma-king—subduer of foes—spoke privately to Dhanañjaya (Arjuna). The scene underscores Yudhiṣṭhira’s inward deliberation and his careful, ethically minded approach: before speaking, he weighs the demands of dharma and the hardships of exile, then chooses confidential counsel with his closest ally.
