Vaiśampāyana said: In particular, a tawny (kapilā) cow should be given to the reciter of the Jaya. She should be accompanied by a bronze milking vessel; her hooves should be plated with silver and her horns with gold, and she should be adorned with other ornaments as well. For the satisfaction of the Pāṇḍavas, one should also give food in charity to the twice-born (Brahmin) recipients. The passage frames generosity toward sacred learning and its transmitters as a dharmic act, combining reverence for the epic’s recitation with compassionate giving.

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches dharmic generosity: honor sacred learning and its reciters through appropriate gifts, and extend compassion through food charity to qualified recipients. Material offerings are framed as supports for spiritual transmission and communal welfare.

Vaiśampāyana describes prescribed gifts connected with the recitation of the epic (Jaya): a specially adorned kapilā cow with a bronze milking vessel is to be given to the reciter, and food is to be donated to the twice-born, stated as being for the satisfaction of the Pāṇḍavas.
