vaiśampāyana uvāca | brāhmaṇeṣu ca tuṣṭeṣu santuṣṭāḥ pāṇḍunandanāḥ | brahmā viṣṇus tathā rudraḥ śakro devagaṇās tathā |
Vaiśampāyana said: When the Brāhmaṇas are pleased, the sons of Pāṇḍu are pleased; so too are Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Rudra, Śakra (Indra), and the hosts of gods. The passage underscores a dharmic ethic: honoring and satisfying learned Brāhmaṇas—especially through appropriate gifts and respectful worship—brings harmony and auspiciousness, as it is seen to please the divine order itself.

The verse teaches that pleasing and honoring Brāhmaṇas—through respectful conduct and suitable gifts—supports dharma and is regarded as pleasing the gods themselves, thereby bringing auspiciousness to one’s life.
Vaiśampāyana states a general dharmic principle: the satisfaction of Brāhmaṇas is linked to the satisfaction of the Pāṇḍavas and major deities (Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Rudra, Indra) and the divine hosts, emphasizing the religious-social importance of honoring learned recipients.
