कामान्‌ मनो5भिलषितान्‌ बाह्नाणेभ्योडददात्‌ प्रभु: | पुरोहितपुरोगाश्च तिथिनक्षत्रपर्वसु । यज्ञियार्था: प्रवर्तन्ते विधिमन्त्रप्रमाणत:,युधिष्ठिको भोजन कराकर द्रौपदी शेष अन्न स्वयं खाती थी। द्रौपदीके भोजन कर लेनेपर उस पात्रका अन्न समाप्त हो जाता था। इस प्रकार सूर्यसे मनोवांछित वरोंको पाकर उन्हींके समान तेजस्वी प्रभावशाली राजा युधिष्ठिर ब्राह्मणोंको नियमपूर्वक अन्नदान करने लगे। पुरोहितोंको आगे करके उत्तम तिथि, नक्षत्र एवं पर्वोपर विधि और मन्त्रके प्रमाणके अनुसार उनके यज्ञसम्बन्धी कार्य होने लगे

vaiśampāyana uvāca | kāmān mano'bhilaṣitān brāhmaṇebhyo dadāt prabhuḥ | purohita-puro-gāś ca tithi-nakṣatra-parvasu | yajñiyārthāḥ pravartante vidhi-mantra-pramāṇataḥ ||

Vaiśampāyana said: The lordly king (Yudhiṣṭhira), having obtained from the Sun the boons he desired, began to give the Brahmins the objects of their wishes. With the household priests placed at the fore, on auspicious lunar days, under the proper constellations, and on festival occasions, the rites connected with sacrifice proceeded in accordance with the prescribed rules and the authority of mantras. Ethically, the passage highlights a ruler’s dharma: prosperity is not hoarded but converted into orderly generosity and properly conducted sacred duty.
