Yudhiṣṭhira said: “The Vasus, the Maruts, the Rudras, and the Sādhyas—along with the perfected sages beginning with the Vālakhilyas, who subsist on the rays—have attained preeminence among living beings. It is by worship and devotion that even such exalted classes of gods and accomplished seers rise to the highest status; thus reverence for the divine becomes the ethical path to excellence.”
युधिछिर उवाच
Even the highest divine classes and perfected sages attain supreme status through worship, devotion, and disciplined spiritual practice; excellence is presented as the fruit of reverence and sustained dharmic effort rather than mere birth or power.
Yudhiṣṭhira enumerates renowned groups of gods and siddhas (Vasus, Maruts, Rudras, Sādhyas, Vālakhilyas) to emphasize their exalted rank and to imply that such greatness is achieved through devotion and spiritual discipline.
